Google just released the first developer preview of their upcoming operating system, the Android O. The Android O is going to be the successor of Android 7.1 Nougat. This is the first time we are getting the Developer preview of this upcoming operating system. Whenever Google releases the Android Developer Preview, we get to see some exciting features. The Latest Android O Developer Preview is not an exception to it. As the Developer Preview is up, we saw some new Android O Features. In this post, we are going to share all of the amazing Android O features, that can be helpful to users.
Top Android O Features
The Android O comes with the better control over notification panel. It comes with Improvised Notification bar, which classifies the notifications into groups. The users of Android O can edit the classification and create their personalized notification category. The Default classification of the notification works well. It categorizes the news app notifications into one, Email notifications into second and other notifications of similar types into their respective categories.
Also, there is another interesting feature added for the notifications. In the Android O, users can snooze the important notifications. The Notifications can be snoozed from 15 minutes to 1 hour period. If you are having some important work and want to remove the relevant notifications, then you can snooze the notifications for 15 min to 1 hour. The notification will pop-up again after the completion of Snooze period.
The PiP mode, which is commonly known as the Picture in Picture mode is now supported in the Android O. The Picture in Picture mode was introduced with Android N for Android TV. Now, it is available for use in Android O Developer Preview. The PiP mode is simply the support to watch videos while doing other stuff. You may have seen the videos in windowed mode in YouTube app. The same feature available to use in the Operating System, so you’ll be able to watch videos while using other apps.
Right now, there are only few app developers that support PiP on Android N or lower. The support of PiP in Android O will encourage developers to develop the applications that support PiP mode for Android O.
With Android Marshmallow, we got “Doze” feature. The Dose feature improved the battery performance on Android smartphone drastically. The Doze feature applies several restrictions on the background app use while the phone is in sleep mode. The result is pretty surprising as almost all Andriod phones running on Android Marshmallow or higher have better battery backup than the others.
Now, with Android O, we have a better “Doze.” The Doze feature in Android O is highly optimized for the battery backup. With increased restriction on background app usage, the Doze in Android O seems to deliver better battery performance. The Major Background Usage restriction policy on Android O is aggressive than in the Android O. The new Doze puts a limitation of the most of the high-battery eating processes like Data connection, Location updates, broadcasts and Background services.
The Settings menu in Android O is redesigned. Redesigning the Settings menu is a familiar ritual in Google community in every OS update. Now, the Menu has been redesigned in the minimal and white background. The UI of the Settings menu is little similar to the old one, but still refreshing and fantastic than the old menu in Nougat or Marshmallow.
The Sliding Hamburger menu introduced in the Nougat Settings menu has been removed in the redesigned menu in Android O. Also, the New Settings menu is shorter than the older one. The tabs and options are divided into broader categories. Like, the SIM cards, Connectivity options are now included in the more general category, “Network and Internet.”

In the Older Android Versions, we have the option to enable the “External Apps” installation, and then we can install any third-party APK file on our smartphone. But, there is a change in Android O. Now, the app which you are using to download the APK file will need permission to download the same.
Suppose, you are using Google Chrome to download an APK file, then you need to give the app permission to download the APK file. This is an excellent major for preventing installing the spyware and other unnecessary third-party app without your permission. There are many third-party apps known to install other apps without your permission. This option will help you manage the permission for every app to download and install the app in the background.
Cleaner User Interface
The Android O comes with little bit different UI changes. As we’ve seen, the Settings App is redesigned with New UI; the other UI elements have been tweaked and changed in the Android O. For example when you open the notification bar, then you can see the New and thinner font used theirs. Also, clicking on Data and Bluetooth icon doesn’t open their quick settings page. Now, it will just enable or disable the option with a tap.
In the Android O, you’ll not be able to see the Battery percentage inside the battery icon. Now, it is shifted to the side of the battery icon. It is a small change but still needed to share with you.
Well, the Adaptive icons are one of the major addition in Android O. The Adaptive Icons feature allows us to change the Icon size and shape according to our convenience. Also, if you change your theme to something which supports the different icon shape, then the Android O will change the icon shape to supported one. It’s very interesting that Android O is the first in the Android family to have such customization option.
